Instructional Strategies and Pedagogical Practices

Teachers can build on the ways learners learn from each other creating a learning environment where there are ample opportunities for interaction, reflection and collaboration. How can teacher create rich and stimulating environments for learning leading to engaged and effective classrooms and also improved academic achievement of the students? Individual differences in learning needs, levels and styles, different structures of disciplines, different learning situations lend complexity to classroom situations. For a teacher to be able to manage these variables effectively requires an understanding of not only what they are teaching but also why they are teaching, how they create and organize learning experiences and when students are ready for learning

It is not what expert teachers do, but rather the ways in which they decide what to do that makes the difference in instructional effectiveness. The evolution of pedagogical intelligence takes time. It is not something that emerges automatically. Rather, it develops through the process of confronting instructional dilemmas and necessitates an  understanding of the classroom milieu.

Course Description:

The course describes how teacher can foster pedagogical intelligence and provides specific instances of practices being tried currently by practitioners in several states. The course introduces to the participants the essence of "pedagogical knowledge" which is the expertise teachers have about understanding the subject matter and how to teach it to create active and engaged learning experiences. The course delves into fundamental paradigms and perspectives of how learning occurs,  how knowledge is organized ,how to identify core ideas, how to integrate learning theories and principles in learning designs paving way for transfer to other ideas, subjects and real life situations. The course will also present various learning frameworks and pedagogical strategies and innovations to help participants to reflect, design and then incorporate them into their own pedagogical practices to create and support learning.

In each session you will engage in reflective exercises, group activities, role plays, discussions, brainstorming sessions and complete an application assignment. The course is highly experiential and focuses on learning how to create active, meaningful and engaging learning experiences that promote learning
